CLITHEROE’S Charlie Dewhurst led Lancashire U13s to an excellent win over Cheshire when the sides went head-to-head in a friendly at Whalley.
The talented spinner (right), who made his Clitheroe first team debut in the win over Euxton on Sunday, made a rapid 32 as Lancashire piled up 187-5 from their 45 overs at Chorley’s Windsor Park. For once Dewhurst had to play second fiddle as wicketkeeper George Lavelle made a fine 78 not out while East Lancashire’s Lewis Pearson chipped in with 16. Lancashire were always favourites to claim the win and tight bowling saw them home as Muhammed Ahmad claimed 3-15 from nine overs and Dewhurst himself picked up 2-38.
Pearson also shone with the ball and returned figures of 2-9 from three overs.
Lancashire U14s also recorded a win as they beat Yorkshire by five runs in the ECB U14 County Cup. Sam Oldham top scored with in the 149 total their trip over the Pennines and then he led the way with the ball as he returned the figures of 6-10 from eight overs as Yorkshire were bowled out five runs short of the target.
Ramsbottom’s young wicketkeeper Dominic Gowlers bagged two victims behind the stumps.
