ROVERS boss Gary Bowyer says his summer recruitment drive will not just boil down to good players, but also good people.

A list of transfer targets has been drafted by Bowyer and his newly installed backroom team as they build for the new season.

And after garnering a team spirit that the Ewood chief believes was critical in avoiding a second straight relegation after coming down from the Premier League, he feels it is imperative to get the right characters on board as they bid to work their way back up.

“There are many lists and many players have been talked about over the last few weeks.

“A lot of hard work goes into finding out all about the person off the pitch as well as on it,” said Bowyer.

“You’ve got to know what you’re bringing into the club – you don’t want to ruin the team spirit that was evident at the end of the season, as we saw with the celebrations at Millwall.

“We’ve got to add to those good characters in the dressing room that we had towards the end of the season.

“We had the right types of characters in there with the right attitude and it paid off for us.

“We’ve got to build on that now and keep the positivity around the club.”

David Dunn was among those key dressing room figures, and the long-serving midfielder remains in negotiations with the club over a new deal.

Both parties are hopeful of reaching an agreement.

“People know my thoughts on David Dunn and have done for a long time, and what he means to this club,” said Bowyer.

“You only have to see how he played and celebrated his goal against Burnley to see how much he cares for the club.

“Talks are still ongoing, but hopefully we’ll get something done.”
