BLACKBURN Rovers have confirmed that they will not hold a minute’s silence on Saturday for Margaret Thatcher.
Thatcher, who died on Monday, was the club’s honorary vice president but there has been much debate across the country this week about whether a minute’s silence for the former Prime Minister should take place at football matches.
Former Conservative minister David Mellor yesterday said that he feared some supporters around the country would not respect any silence.
Rovers host Derby County on Saturday and discussed whether to hold a minute's silence at their regular pre-match briefing this morning.
They have decided against a silence, instead opting to mark Thatcher’s death and her role at the club with an article in the matchday programme.
