BLACKBURN mounted an incredible second half fight back to clinch the unlikeliest of victories.

Burn appeared to be dead and buried by the break as Didsbury raced to a commanding 19-0 lead.

However, in a classic game of two halves, the Ramsgreave Drive club stormed back to take victory thanks to two penalty tries and some accurate goal kicking from Nick Smith.

Didsbury dominated the opening half and were two tries to the good within the opening 10 minutes.

Blackburn managed to get some possession and were camped on the home side’s try line – however they failed to make the most of the pressure and instead it was Didsbury who scored for what looked like a decisive third try, which was converted to go 19-0 up.

But Burn were a different proposition after the break and Smith gots points on the board with a penalty two minutes after the restart.

The away side were then awarded the first of their two penalty tries on 56 minutes when a Didsbury boot kicked the ball out of a Burn attacking scrum and the referee awarded the penalty try which Smith converted in front of the posts.

Blackburn had now reduced the gap to nine points and they continued to dominate – with the forwards gaining the upper hand. That gap was closed even further on 64 minutes when Smith slotted over a second penalty.

Burn were now in the ascendancy and put pressure on the home side but their defence was defiant.

However, Burn did not give up and a further attack took them to the Didsbury line, this time a home forward infringed by coming in from the side as Burn were preparing to go for the line.

The referee adjudged that this had denied Burn a try scoring opportunity and awarded a penalty try which appeared to be a little bit hard on the home side.

While Burn may well have scored, the penalty try made the conversion easier for Smith who kicked the winning points from in front of the posts.
