BLACKBURN Hawks are hoping to seal the return of their former attacking starlet Jordan Bannon as coach Jared Owen looks to add the ‘final piece to the jigsaw’.
Owen was on target twice on Sunday night as Hawks scored four times in the final period to defeat Coventry Blaze 5-4 for their fourth successive win, as they moved to third in the table.
Teenager Bannon quit the Hawks in mid October for Premier League side Telford Tigers, in pursuit of international ambitions, but is now mulling over a return to his former club.
Bannon took part in the Great Britain under-20 trials and opted to move to the higher level to improve his chances. He has since missed out on selection.
Owen said: “I am very happy with the squad we have got in place now but we are waiting to see whether Jordan will come back. He would be a great addition, but apart from that I don’t expect to do any more business.
“We didn’t blame him for moving on when he did because he wanted to play at the higher level and give his international push a real go.
“He just missed out but it was all a great experience for him.
“Playing at the higher level has also been a great experience but he has found it all a bit too much of a commitment with the commuting and training twice a week.”
Aaron Davies, Dan Mackriel and Myles Dacres were Hawks’ other scorers on Sunday as they recovered from a slow start to keep their recent momentum going.
A double header against Trafford and Whitley are up next this weekend, with Owen eyeing a winning end to the year.
He said: “We had an awful second period on Sunday but we showed good character to come back and win, when at times it looked as though we were going to lose.
“We are five points behind the top two, if we win our game in hand, and we still have to play both of them so we believe we can put some pressure on them.
“We have three games between now and Christmas and if we can win them then we will be a fairly strong position to challenge come the turn of the year.”
