ACCRINGTON Stanley boss Leam Richardson admits Lee Molyneux’s performance as a substitute in the FA Cup draw with Oxford United on Saturday will leave him with a selection poser ahead of Sunday’s trip to Burton Albion.

The wideman impressed in the latter stages of the second half in the 3-3 draw at the weekend and Richardson admits he has played his way into his thinking.

“He’s one of those who has had a tough couple of months,” said Richardson. “He came on and has done nothing wrong. He was rested in the last couple of games and that is how to answer – to come and really try and then score a goal like that. He came on and applied himself really well.”

And Richardson admits that the switch to 4-4-2, he paired James Beattie with Padraig Amond in attack, has also given him food for thought with Beattie another who was on target.

“You have got two strikers there who will get you goals,” said Richardson.

In the case of Beattie that goal was a spectacular 30-yard volley which pleased his boss even if the talismanic frontman didn’t have his best overall game.

“It’s not the first time he has scored one of them,” Richardson said of Beattie’s goal. “He came off and apologised for the 10 minutes before that. It was a lively pitch and he couldn’t get himself in the game as much as he would have liked but when you’ve got quality and class as the saying goes it rises to the top.”

The FA Cup replay has been confirmed for Wednesday, December 12, with a 7.45pm kick off.
