ROVERS full back Adam Henley believes the club’s confidence can help carry them to back-to-back derby wins starting with three points over Bolton Wanderers tonight.

Despite Blackburn having registered just one win in Henning Berg’s five wins in charge, the 20-year-old insists the Norwegian has instilled a fresh belief within the squad.

And Henley is desperate for the players to repay the manager with a first home victory for Berg against their Lancashire neighbours, before the side turn their attention to the Burnley fixture on Sunday.

“The next game is the goal,” said Henley. “The priority is Bolton and we have to prepare for that right.

“I think we can really see confidence in the side, especially in the last few games. Players are starting to understand each other more and confidence comes with that. Performances like Peterborough will only drive us in.

“I have always thought that confidence is one of the most important things in football.

“You can have all the ability in the world but if you are not confident then it is only half the battle.

“I think a team full of confidence is going to be a team that does well.”

Henley is cautious that the players and fans, don’t get distracted by the Burnley clash on Sunday before they have taken care of business at Ewood Park tonight.

And he also hopes the supporters will stick with the side, even though fewer than 14,000 turned out to watch the Millwall defeat last weekend.

“We have to take each game as it comes,” he added. “We need to look at getting three points out of the Bolton game if we are looking for promotion.

“That is what we are looking for.

“You’ve got to stay focussed and not let the occasion distract you and treat it like another game and put in a good performance.

“The fans have been great in the past few games and hopefully two good performances this week will keep them happy.

“Hopefully we can get a clean sheet as well.”

Henley has forced his way back into the fold under Berg with the Welsh Under-21 international having started every game since the Norwegian took charge.

“I wasn’t really training with the first team at the start of the season and now I have got back in, it gives me confidence and I feel much more a part of it,” said Henley.

“It came as a shock to me because I hadn’t been with the first team a lot but you’ve got to be ready for that and take the chance when it comes.”

Henley enjoyed a spell in the first team during Rovers’ Premier League campaign last season before losing his place, but believes that spell away from the limelight has served him well during his current stay in the starting XI.

I was disappointed,” he said, “but I saw that as an opportunity to work on my weaknesses and that has done me well by having that time off and then just coming on.”

And he believes that there is plenty more to come from a Rovers side he says are beginning to reap the rewards of Henning Berg’s methods.

“In training every day there is progress in the team,” added Henley. “It is still early but hopefully the next few weeks will see a definite improvement in the team.

“We have slight tweaks in formation and in personnel but they have all been positive changes.

“I think in the last few performances we are starting to get into that groove and hopefully that will only improve and then continue for the rest of the season.”
