ANY man or woman who lives through two world wars to reach the grand old age of 102 deserves to be treated by everyone with the utmost dignity and respect.

In many societies of the world, that would not need to be said – it would be instinctive.

But shamefully, in the Rosegrove area of Burnley, a woman who assembled Lancaster bombers during the Second World War is being plagued by teenage yobs.

Damage to her property and stone-throwing are said to have left the pensioner feeling frightened, miserable and isolated.

It’s disgusting that the children responsible don’t apparently have the sense of decency to realise that what they are doing is totally unacceptable.

But sadly, like so many other acts by young vandals these days, the parents of these hooligans have to be taken to task.

Their offspring clearly haven’t been shown that there are right and wrong ways to behave.

The youngsters need to be found and punished in a way that they will remember – and which makes behaviour boundaries clear.

And the parents must also be forced to take responsibility for what has been done.
