THE latest drink-drive analysis for East Lancashire is shocking.

Four booze-fuelled 15-year- olds were among 1,634 drivers who failed roadside breath tests.

And the oldest drink driver in East Lancashire was 87.

Road safety campaigners have called for the drink-drive limit to be reduced while police say they are ploughing resources into tackling the problem.

But it seems the message is falling on to deaf ears.

There appears to be a growing number of people, particularly teenagers, who are putting lives at risk by committing this crime.

But it is not only young drivers who are to blame.

The availability of alcohol must also be looked at, as well as tougher punishments for anyone caught selling alcohol to under-age drinkers.

The courts should also impose longer driving bans, bigger fines or even prison sentences for anyone convicted of a serious drink-driving offence.

Until these measures are brought in, people will continue to take the risk.

One for the road should instead be none for the road.
