Is the Summer over?

Got any kids starting or changing school, going off to Uni/College, starting their working life.

I didn’t like it when our oldest went off to Uni…people used to ask me that question no-one really ever wants answering…”Are you alright?”

Back then I used to answer “Not really, lost my best pal”.

“Oh dear, how old was he?” “18”!

But I soon adjusted to it and was braced for my second dose some years later.

Kids, you’ve got to love them…what did my pal Jack Straw tell me once?

They make your arms ache when they’re little and your heart ache when they’re older.

I asked one of ours some IT advice once. “You should know that” came the reply!

“Hang on. I’m the guy who taught you to walk and talk”!

“So?”

Now we watch as these “kids”, now full on adults, make their way in life, make new friends and relationships, travel.

Do things we’d never dreamed of.

The “Olds” spoke about it during a recent gathering with the new “established”, a breast feeding or nappy (disposable) changing break.

Born in the early fifties, we missed world war. We’re coming towards the end of working lives and preparing for new ones… When were you born?

When do you sometimes wish you were?
