THE absolute saturation of the media with the Murdoch phone hacking story makes me think that it’s more of a vendetta.
Maybe a sort of payback for the way they exposed the facts about MPs’ expenses and stuff like that.
For all their faults I believe we do need a strong free press to keep an eye on things, to watch the movers and shakers and hold them to account.
I’m not too bothered about them watching celebrities, as they do court publicity and usually profit by being in the news.
But you do have to draw the line at prying into private peoples’ grief or suffering, or interfering with investigations.
It’s a totally different thing and I do agree that it must be sorted.
And as for the police, well. There must be no excuse, no white wash and no evasion.
We need to be absolutely confident and sure that they are above suspicion.
