THE fight against killer hospital bugs is one that our local health bosses are determined to win.
But so far this year there have been double the number of cases of C-diff in our hospitals than was set down in government targets.
This sounds like it should be a great concern to families across East Lancashire. And the hospitals’ trust admits it has been a bad start to the year.
But targets are more strict now than ever before and more must be done.
A process is being used in wards where rooms are ‘fogged’. One can only imagine what that looks like in practice.
But filling rooms with an anti-bacterial fog which kills spores sounds, on the face of it, like a wonderful, and decisive, solution to the issue.
Hospitals have long suffered from superbugs and infections, which are all the more dangerous due to the numbers of people with weakened immune systems under one roof.
Anything that can be done to make sure improvements continue should be enthusiastically welcomed.
