SCOOPING the lottery is everybody’s dream. We’re in it to win it every week with a list in our minds of what to do if the numbers come up.

There have been a lot of heart-warming stories over the years of how people’s lives have been changed for the better.

Sometimes though those who do come up trumps haven’t been the most deserving of characters.

Just look at Michael Carroll who picked up his £9.7m cheque in 2002 wearing an electronic tag for a drunk and disorderly conviction.

Millions didn’t change his ways. He went on to get two ASBOs and spent the lot on houses, fast cars and loose women.

But his lifestyle couldn’t be further from that of Geoff and Hilary Bennette who are £3.5million richer.

A school governor in Rishton for more than 20 years Geoff is described as ‘totally community minded’ and has applied to be a volunteer helper at next year’s Olympics.

They are exactly the sort of people who make you think: ‘If it can’t be me I’m glad it’s them!’
