THE move by Bright Futures Day Nursery in Clitheroe is a real sign of the times.
Seven cameras have been installed which stream live footage over the internet.
It allows parents to log on via a computer or mobile phone and keep a watchful eye on their children.
Bosses say it is targeted at families who face the ‘heart wrenching moment’ of leaving young children at nursery to go to work.
In today’s society where both parents often work full time, there is definitely a gap in the market.
But it has to be questioned whether it is a productive step.
Every parent has that natural instinct to protect their children and the project taps into that.
But it borders on the obsessive to translate that into using a webcam to constantly check on them.
There comes a time when, as hard as that is, parents have to trust the professionals to care for their precious offspring.
And checking up on them via a webcam may make it more difficult to let go.
