AFTER almost 10 months of high drama, the football season has ended in dramatic style.
And 2010/11 will certainly go down as historic in these parts, even if not always for the right reasons.
Blackburn Rovers were sold by the Jack Walker family to Indian poultry and pharmaceutical giants Venky’s.
The new owners sacked Sam Allardyce and replaced him with rookie Steve Kean.
It looked worrying for a time, but the last few games have shown real promise, culminating in the fantastic victory at Wolverhampton which confirmed the club’s status.
Fans now hope the promises made by Venky’s about significant investment come true this summer.
For Burnley, the season started with dreams of a return to the Premier League, but manager Brian Laws was sacked after failing to deliver.
However, the Clarets seem to have found themselves a promising manager and there is genuine optimism that next year will be Burnley’s season.
Accrington Stanley conquered adversity – such as the taxman threatening an auction of assets over an unpaid bill – in astonishing style to reach the play-offs.
It means all three of our beloved clubs approach next season with real hope.
Let’s hope they can all deliver and make 2011/12 a vintage year.
