We bought our son a Rovers tee shirt from the Club shop for his birthday.
Not the Council motto Arte et Labore...but a translation...Craft and Graft. Quite liked it!
I’ve gained a degree from Lancaster University twice.
Motto:- 'Patet omnibus veritas' obviously only if you know Latin does the “Truth lie open to all!”
Sadly, as a boy in Brum, I used to collect corporation bus numbers. But also, in little writing, the Director of Transport’s name was there:- WG Copestake – sharing initials , my hero!
The ‘bus also had the City Crest emblazoned upon with the motto “Forward”, which, as a boy, seemed obvious, as that’s the way the ‘bus was going? Neighbouring Wolverhampton oddly sported:- “Out of darkness cometh light”?
The Scouts were Prepared. Who Dares won and the RAF professed “Per Ardua ad Astra", marines are "Semper Fidelis". HRH the Prince of Wales Serves. Knights of the Garter claim "evil to him who evil thinks".
Knight Harry Secombe went for Go on...(think about it).
Your old school or Alma Mater is Latin for nourishing Mother? Local QEGS is Learn to be of Service.
MI6 Spooks profess Always Secret, again in Latin.
I could go on...
Know any other odd mottos?
Who believe "Better men make a better world." or "Primum Non Nocere", or who preferred 'Deeds not words'?
What do you think? By skill & hard work!
