IT was a single punch with terrible consequences. Adam Rogers died after banging his head on the pavement and suffering terrible brain injuries when he fell.
His family and many friends left behind continue to struggle with their loss and intolerable grief.
The youth who threw that one punch is now a convicted killer, and facing a substantial prison term.
His family’s lives will have also been damaged by the knowledge that their son was responsibe for another person's death.
Detective Superintendent Neil Hunter said the attack was the 'sort of thing that happened in every town, every city in the UK'.
But he said the fact that it resulted in Adam’s death should serve as a warning to others.
The teenage killer was just 16 at the time of the attack.
But he had been out drinking in Blackburn town centre, and the assault on Adam was the fourth violent incident he had been involved in.
The worrying aggression displayed by the teenager is a symbol of a major cultural problem in this country.
Something needs to be done to stop the boozed-up thuggery that is marring our town centres.
