HOSPITAL bosses are not having a good week.
First they were criticised by a senior doctor for releasing patients too early and now it has been revealed that East Lancashire’s gynaecology unit will be temporarily moved to a car park.
A huge rise in demand for emergency beds at Royal Blackburn Hospital has left the hospital struggling to cope.
Last week the Accident and Emergency ward was closed for three hours because demand was so high.
The news that women are set to be seen in a cabin in the car park of Burnley General Hospital is appalling.
Not only will consultations take place but there will also be operations in these temporary buildings.
The news has provoked a strong reaction from both watchdogs and women’s groups.
We have a showpiece hospital in Blackburn and these are not the standards we expect.
Already dozens of planned procedures at the gynaecology ward, which was based at Royal Blackburn, have been cancelled.
This sort of service is not acceptable and cannot continue.
