Exquisite Limestone Coast Cabernet 2013, £6.49, Aldi
Limestone Coast is the name given to a winemaking area of Australia south east of Adelaide in South Australia off the coast road route towards Melbourne. This straightforward Cabernet Sauvignon, made specially for Aldi, is full of blackcurrants and dark plums. The alcohol is 14% and this is a good wine to go with red meat or duck dishes.
Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, £9.97, Aldi
Festive times are on the horizon but at this price you don’t have to wait weeks and weeks to enjoy a bit of bubbly. This genuine French example is a traditional blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes with baked apple and red fruit flavours that are light rather than overpowering. Alcohol is just 12% - a bargain.
