Taste the Difference Albarino, £8, Sainsbury’s
As many will know Albarino is the name of the grape which produces a very tasty, and fashionable, dry Spanish white. It comes from the northern Galicia province and the region of Rias Baixas where a cooler climate and fairly high rainfall make a crisp, fresh drink full of peaches and apricot. Alcohol is a sensible 12.5% and the price is good.
Taste the Difference Chilean Pinot Noir, £7, Sainsbury’s
Like the white above this is another Sainsbury’s own-label wine but here we have a velvety-smooth Pinot Noir made for the supermarket by respected producers Errazuriz in Chile’s Aconcagua Valley region close to the Andes. Raspberries and cherries are the strong flavours although this Pinot is light, 13.5% alcohol and excellent value.
