Chateau Font Bonnet Medoc 2012, £8.99, Tesco
There are few more classic French reds than those from the Medoc area close to Bordeaux. The mix of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes has inspired winemakers all over the world. This entry level example is full of blackberries and other dark fruit with hints of oak and spice that go famously with a Sunday roast. Priced to go down well too.
Chateau Martinon 2014, £7.95, The Wine Society
Today’s second wine is another example of the skills in France’s most famous wine region – this time an Entre-deux-Mers blended white. Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Gris along with Muscadelle grapes produce a pineapple and lemon. It’s refreshing and almost zesty and a bargain for those who join 140-year-old mutual society.
