ARE we really that shocked about the latest allegations concerning Fifa? Most people aren’t.
With Mr Blatter gone we can now expect a new era of fairness and openness.
The past week was nothing short of farcical with Mr Blatter taking part in an election and then, having won it, deciding it was a good time to go.
Why not just go and save us all the speeches?
But what about that other ‘problem’?
You know, the one we don’t really want to talk about because there is far too much money in it.
The sad fact is that sport is now just a way for gambling companies to get through to as wide an audience as possible.
We are all so keen on showing the world how we, the English media exposed the organisation for what it was.
But how about the fact that almost every other football tournament and team is now linked in one way or another to a gambling company.
Or course there is nothing illegal in that.
Gambling you see is okay.
Gambling as long as it is done responsibly is fine.
Even if it is rammed down the throats of kids as they watch their favourite football star.
Fifa may well have been rotten to the core and there needed to be a clear out.
But we can’t place ourselves on some moral high ground without realising that the major sports across the world are far too reliant on gambling companies to fund their excesses.
You can be sure that 10 years down the line there will be another major scandal and it will involve gambling.
Before that at least there is hope again that we might get the World Cup in England.
That was the plan all along wasn’t it?
ON a more positive note, the sun is out for a change and the traffic problems that have plagued my route to work have been sorted. I am keen to find out though how long it takes to fix a pavement.
I honestly feel like bringing my own cement and a small bucket and fixing pavements myself.
If that is what it takes then so be it.
But you have to give credit where it is due. The new Railway Road looks pretty impressive. Brand new quality road surface and pretty smart pavements.
