Bordiere Nord Syrah Grenache 2014, £6.99, Majestic
Blackberries and a hint of pepper are the flavours in this French red which is ideal for summer evening barbecues. It’s a blend of Syrah or Shiraz and Grenache and comes from the Pays d’Oc region in the south where the country’s most innovative winemakers are based. It goes well with casseroles too, is 13% alcohol and very well priced.
Wairau Cove Sauvignon Blanc 2014, £7.66, Tesco
This classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has been popular on Tesco shelves for quite a while and is excellent value at this discounted price rather than the £11 plus which is sometimes charged. It is made in the famed Marlborough region and as you would expect is full of gooseberry and even kiwi fruit flavours. Alcohol is a very reasonable 12%.
