Pinot Noir Romania 2014, £6.99, Waitrose
Romania doesn’t get a great press in Britain these days but when it comes to red wine it’s definitely a country to watch. Waitrose have this scrumptious Pinot Noir made for them in the Dealunie Munteniei region and it’s full of cherry, raspberry and strawberry flavours. Alcohol level is just 13% and a bargain price makes it an all-round winner.
Gruner Veltliner 2013, £7.99, Waitrose
Not too far from Romania is Austria, another underrated wine nation where a native grape called Gruner Veltliner produces delicious white wines. This one comes from north east of Vienna and is zesty and bright with strong tastes of lime and a hint of white pepper. It is 12.5% and goes particularly well with oriental food
