Stonehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2014, £5.99, Co-op
This price is £3 cheaper than normal until April 28 and that’s good value for a Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa’s Western Cape, especially compared with what you normally pay for equivalent whites from New Zealand’s Marlborough region. Lime and grapefruit are the main tastes and there’s an almost zesty air to this 13% summer wine.
Montgras Special Selection Carignan Syrah 2013, £6.79, Co-op
There’s a 50/50 mix of Carignan and Syrah or Shiraz grapes in this big Chilean red which gives you fulsome plum and blueberry flavours along with a hint of oak. As a result the alcohol level is a strong 14% but this is a wine for sipping at your leisure rather than glugging. Like the white above the price quoted is a £3 reduction, until April 28.
