The week started poorly. England beaten at the Cricket World Cup, AGAIN! Proper rubbish!
Then I was privileged to get a sneak preview of the new Sports & Leisure Centre, slap bang in the middle of the College campus in partnership with the local council.
Weird thoughts...I'd opened the now closed & soon to be demolished Waves 29 years before! 2 more meetings in the College then home by 8ish.
Up at half five to catch the 7 o'clock to London for a national Governor's Council meeting then a quick cab across to the Local Government Association for another consultation about governance, this time about Healthwatch.
Chatted to some great cabbies. One who learned "the knowledge" from 18 & at 21 then, London's youngest cabbie. Another had been a broker in the City, but had got out of that rat race!
On the train home, met Elizabeth Taylor, Chief Exec of Bootstraps & nattered all the way home! A long day.
Next day was a meeting with the local health service, conducted in full health service-ese. I asked for a GoT, Glossary of Terms - think they got the point! Then into the town hall for another discussion on health & related matters.
After the town hall being my second home for 25 years it seems odd to visit there. It has a culture all of it's own - I used to remind staff that there was a T on the word town, it wasn't their own hall!
Then another dash to Ewood & an almost last kick win over Bolton! Only the Liverpool match to look forward to, I guess.
The week's suddenly half over. Isn't retirement fun! I chair a development session for governors at the College. We face tough times with government imposed challenging financial circumstances. We need to raise our game & we give ourselves some challenging tasks & time frames.
Then another dash across town to the Golf Club & the Membership & Marketing Group. Like most organisations it faces competition for people's time & money, we need to promote the game & the club better.
And so, it's nearly the weekend. I like being retired, but there's not enough time. This week we should have been in Madeira with pals, but we had to cancel due to this packed diary.
Still one last visit to the College to begin the process of appointing a new senior member of staff. Big changes at the College & more to come. But I must like it, or I wouldn't do it.
Perhaps a glass on the way home? Been promised paella for tea!
