Corte Mayor Rioja 2010, £6.99, Co-op
Rioja is probably Spain’s best known style of red wine sold all over the world. In some versions the flavour of the Tempranillo grapes is drowned out by the woody oak of the barrels and vanilla.
Here’s one where you do get smooth blackcurrants and save £3 on the usual £9.99 until April 7. The alcohol level is 13%.
Rocca Veccia Falanghina 2014, £5.99, Co-op
Falanghina is a white grape with a history stretching back to the Roman Empire and still largely limited to the region of Puglia, the heel in the boot of Italy.
The wine is light, very slightly sweet and spicy, oak free and straw yellow in colour. It is refreshingly different and goes well with all kinds of food. The price above is a £1 saving offer until April 7.
