Monte Giove Sangiovese Merlot 2014, £4.99, Co-op
Until March 17 you save a stonking £2.50 on this normally £7.49 red from Forli in the North East of Italy not far from San Marino. There’s no oak and the grapes are 60% native Sangiovese and 40% Merlot which gives it a soft, plummy flavour with a hint of spice.
Curators Choice White 2014, £6.99, Co-op
There’s a £1 cut from £7.99 until March 17 too on a white from South Africa’s ‘wild west’ Svartland coastal region. Three grapes go into the blend – 50% Chenin Blanc, 36% Chardonnay and 14% Semillon and the result is a fresh taste with peaches and apricots which goes great with cheese and is a nice change from one-track whites.
