Friuli Sauvignon Blanc 2013, £9, Marks and Spencer
In the far north eastern corner of Italy bordering Austria and Slovenia is the region of Friuli which has for centuries been home to a dry white wine more recently copied by many winemakers elsewhere.
This 12.5%, crisp, unoaked example is made for M&S and has flavours of pears and green apples. You’ll see Friuli for £25 plus on most restaurant wine lists.
Cotes Du Luberon 2013, £8, Marks and Spencer
Another wine made specially for M&S, this time in France’s Luberon region in a fashionable corner of Provence.
This typically rural red is made with Grenache and Syrah or Shiraz grapes and is smooth with lots of plum and berry flavours. Alcohol level is a reasonable 13% and it goes well with all kinds of grilled meat or Mediterranean-style veggie dishes.
