Gruner Veltliner 2013, £6.99, Morrisons
It’s 25 years since a mid-European country’s wine industry was brought to the brink of collapse by the revelation that some unscrupulous firms were adding a potentially poisonous chemical to their product.
Austria’s honest winemakers rebuilt reputations with their native white Gruner Veltliner grape. Dry with delicious peach flavours and 12.5% alcohol.
Matua Pinot Noir 2013, £8.98, Morrisons
There are a number of tasty Pinot Noir’s from New Zealand’s Marlborough region and this award-winning one from the 40-year-old Matua family business is particularly good.
Alcohol level is 13% and it’s refreshing, almost chewy in texture and has enough flavour to go with all kinds of food. Pinots don’t come cheap but this is great value.
