Comtesse St Hilaire Montagne Saint Emilion 2013, £7.99, Co-op
Until February 24 there’s £4 off this classic, smooth, cherry and blackcurrant blend which is one of the best-known styles of the Bordeaux region.
Around 60% of the grapes are Merlot and they are mixed with 20% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. You won’t find many reds of this quality for under £8, with a traditional cork too.
Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2013, £7.49, Co-op
Another price cut of almost £4 makes this popular brand of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand’s Marlborough region extremely good value.
There are armfuls of gooseberries and the flavours are dry but strong and steely while the alcohol level is a fairly big for a white at 13.5%. If Kiwi SB is your tipple this one is quite a bargain.
