Alsace Pinot Gris 2013, £7.99, Morrisons
There’s only one place in Europe which produces delightfully light, dry, melon and pear Pinot Gris whites and that’s the French region of Alsace close to the German border.
This example is from the 50-year-old co-operative in the village of Turckheim where more than 200 producers take their grapes. A good price and 13% alcohol.
Icrinali Nero Di Troia 2012, £7.49, Morrisons
From Puglia, the southern Italian region in the heel of the boot here’s a juicy red made from native Nero d’Avola grapes.
The tastes are ripe cherries and blackberries and the 13% red goes great with pasta and tomato, lamb or beef dishes as well as on its own. The modern style and versatility of this wine make it a bargain buy.
