FOR those easily offended, please do not read on.
Now, that should ensure we get those who DO get offended to read right to the very end of the article. I would think man is presently a little tired of arguing about one set of people being offended by something while others see it as free speech.
I know it might seem a little flippant to say so but I think I speak for everyone when I say this was not a the best of weeks to be Muslim.
What was a little strange this week was how we became almost obsessed with rolling out two kinds of people for the cameras.
First we had the ‘Muslim leaders’ and then we had the ‘terror experts’.
Both seem to have had more air time than anyone else.
The first batch was - as seems to be the case with most things - anyone who could string a sentence together and say something contrary to what most other people are saying.
We love those folk and, as I sat down to watch the news this week, there they were in their dozens.
Some had beards and some had no beards.
Some had headscarves and some no headscarves.
Whilst I must admit there were a fair few people who seemed to be right on the ball with their comments, on the whole we are struggling to find enough eloquent people.
At times it was almost embarrassing watching people talk about international and complex issues and not being able to make a point properly.
On the flip side we had the terror experts.
This person’s job is to look into the mind of the terrorist and spot what might happen and what police might be doing.
His - and, in fact, her - role is to give commentary on the ‘developing situation’.
Most of the time they tend to describe what is on the screen.
The crowning glory this week, of course, had to be the gentleman on Fox News who said the whole of Birmingham was a ‘no-go’ area for non-Muslims.
Yes, if there ever was an apology we didn’t want then this was it.
Keep your apology sir.
And for those a little overcome with rolling news coverage of being offended we had the weather to thank for a slight change in coverage.
There is nothing like an inch of snow to cause the next panic.
