Saw a family group, out for a family Christmas meal, I guess.
Equal split of grown ups & youngsters, probably late 20s with primary aged children.
Once sat down, the children got their smart phones/tablets out, the adults had a glass of Christmas cheer. They awaited whatever they'd ordered to eat. Kids absorbed in whatever, grown ups chatting.
"Present Time" was announced & massive present bags were delved into & distributed, some really nice things, digital video cameras, those games things, really nice stuff. These were then put away in the receiving bag, adults played a bit with their presents, youngsters went back to their gadgets.
I had a myriad of thoughts. Sometimes I didn't feel happy, sometimes I just felt old. Shouldn't people be interacting? Shouldn't people savour & appreciate the generosity of others? It all only took 10-15 minutes.
So now on TV we seem to have done pre Christmas pressurised build up, mainly focussed on youngsters & food. That done, it was the "January" sales, some of which began before Christmas!
Now it's holidays...the Caribbean, New York, cruises, beach hols, you name it!
Isn't all a bit fast, what's next? Valentine's? Easter eggs? I can't keep up? Should I?
