Chateau Roumieu Sauternes 2009, £7.99, Co-op
Sweet white wine rules at Christmas when warm puddings pass everyone’s lips and here’s one that has £5 off until January 3! Sauternes comes from south of Bordeaux in France and this one from a village called Barsac where the grapes are Semillon with a little Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. You only get a half bottle but it’s lovely to sip chilled.
Co-op Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2013, £13.99, Co-op
Also French but very different is this iconic big red with a £2 price cut until January 3. Grenache, Syrah or Shiraz, Mourvedre and Cinsault grapes together make a rich cherry and blackberry blend which is just the job to go with the turkey, beef, game or whatever meat you are feasting on during the festive season. Alcohol is 13.5%.
