TTD Marques De Almeida 2013, £7.50, Sainsbury’s
Taste The Difference is Sainsbury’s own label and this red is a good example of how supermarkets can bring quality regional wine to us at reasonable prices. Ribera Del Duero is the particular area alongside the Duero river in northern Spain which becomes the Douro when it flows into Portugal. Tempranillo grapes, rich dark berries and 13.5% alcohol.
TTD Languedoc 2013, £8, Sainsbury’s
The Languedoc region of southern France running down to the Mediterranean coast and Spain is a great winemaking area and this own label white is another bargain. A mix of Grenache, Marsanne and Vermentino grapes gives a pleasantly different flavour of white peaches and a dryness which will go well with curries. Alcohol is 13%
