THE bane of my life at the moment seems to be road works. This week, I have spent more time sat in my car trying to get into my office than anything else.
Now, I know road works are necessary, but there has to be an easier way to organise them in a town that has four busy roads.
You can’t get from one side of the town to the other without coming across one of those sets of temporary traffic lights.
It seems that temporary traffic lights have taken over my town.
The funniest thing now is that we have four temporary traffic lights outside my office.
Not two, not three, but four! We all know that two of those are not necessary at all.
Only a complete moron would sit there like an idiot waiting for two of these lights to change.
Well, I am that moron. Even though we know full well that there is no need to sit there, we will still do it.
I have also become quite concerned at the level of red plastic road safety barriers. Road works seem to be accompanied now with large plastic red blocks. They are then complemented with the normal red plastic barriers.
Why there is any need for this when we all know a couple of cones will do the job is beyond me.
Hey, I’m not accusing anyone of anything. In fact, I am. I know full well there is no need for those red road barriers and some health and safety nut managed to palm them off to councils.
And I would say it seems more money is spent securing the site and stopping claims than on the road itself.
And because we are so afraid that someone might not see those highly visible cones, the contractors have had to place a whole column of them one after the other every time they do any work to dig up a road.
The vicious circle is completed when the workmen have to pause every two minutes for people who have no clue there is work going on.
And that is the Friday rant over.
