SOME years ago, sat in a grand old town hall, Sheffield, I think, I noticed the list of former Lord Mayors:- Herberts, Percivals, Henrys even Williams.
No Duanes, Shanes or Waynes yet, I pondered. Nor Chardonnays, Destinys or Kylies!
My WG is pretty straight forward. William from never met grandad Billy Selkirk, a tram driver in Edinburgh & George from never met Uncle George Selkirk aka SELKIRK, George, Marine, PLY/X 1550, died off Anzio in 1944.
Could my wife be Anne being born soon after the now Princess Royal, who sports Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise as her Monicas (why Monica?).
So what are you called? Not many Nigels, Nevilles or Normans about just now? I hear that Harry, Oliver & Jack are top for boys (William & George 9th & 12th!) & for girls, Amelia, Olivia & Jessica!
What are you called? Why? Did your parents have the other gender name ready? What names have you used? Why? Any sporting, music, film idol names commemorated?
Anyone changed their name?
