Getting added to a WhatsApp group is like being forced into a room with people you don’t like.
The fact that someone can just take you and put you into a social network group you don’t want to be in is tantamount to kidnapping.
In the past few months people have been adding me WhatsApp groups.
Like most people I am all for talking to different people but some of these groups are just made up of folk you wouldn’t talk to in real life.
I essentially am now a member of two groups. One is named ‘Civilised group’ and the other is called the ‘Bit Quiet Group’. I have no idea who invented these names but one is for discussion on the latest news and opinions from the high brow types. While the other is full of the scutter types.
I would say I enjoy being in the company of the scutter types. They are the kind of people you wouldn’t hang around with in real life in case someone thought you were a little weird.
But in a WhatsApp Group they are the cleverest blokes on the planet.
Being added to new group is the most annoying thing in the world. You can’t leave the group immediately because that would be just bad manners. I tend to wait until late at night and quietly slip away.
The person who set up the group knows you have left the group but can do nothing about it. Sometimes one leaves and is forced back into the group.
This is like asking someone who is leaving the room to come back in and continue listening to other people’s nonsense.
Would you do this in real life?
This is too much for some of the sensitive types who will then proceed to leave threatening messages without realising that they can actually do something about it.
Then I realised the best thing to do is to block people. Yes, thousands of years of civilisation and it has come down to blocking people.
