EVERY so often you will try to make sense of why some people are how they are.
Take for instance bus drivers. This week, one of my friends had a big issue with bus drivers because he was concerned that they were getting far too much special treatment.
He went on to describe how they annoyed the hell of him as they blocked roads up despite having their own lanes.
He had a big problem with bus drivers not parking into bus stops properly and leaving their rear ends sticking out.
In fact let me rephrase that…they leave the rear end of the bus sticking out and thus causing a blockage.
After seeing your team lose 1-0 at home to far a inferior side, the next worst thing on the planet is when you spot two bus drivers having a chat in the middle of the road.
This freakish incident can make many a motorist very angry.
I can imagine they are talking about how bad the traffic is or just asking if the jam sandwiches were raspberry or strawberry today.
The problem I have is that I come from a long line of bus loving folk. My father was a bus conductor, my cousin was a bus driver and my brother still is a bus driver.
If I had not been a writer I think I would have made a good bus driver. I probably would have been one of those happy bus drivers and not one of those grumpy ones.
So, I tend to take it quite personally when any criticism is levelled to the bus driving community.
I will defend the bus drivers to the very end. So the fact that this fellow had an issue had a problem with bus drivers bothered me.
I did try to reason with him and state that bus drivers were not that bad apart from the ones near Jubilee Street who get angry when you go into their precious bus lanes.
But my taxi-driver friend was having none of it.
