Lent is a time for reflection. I reflect on our society and how the basic values that originate in our religious practice and moral compass appear in our actions.
I would like to contribute more towards achieving a just and tolerant world where my selfish desires are subjected more to the general wellbeing. I would like to stop and take stock of my own actions and attitudes so that I can promote a more equal, tolerant and loving environment. Our attitudes towards those that are hungry, lonely and cold, and those who are mired in difficulties of many kinds often lacks sympathy. We are often intolerant of each other pushing each other out of the way.
I ask myself if we were to be visited from outer space could the visitor work out what devout people of religion stand for? How can we help create a society that better reflects our faith?
