Lent as a word in Anglo Saxon refers to the Spring. From a Christian perspective as the 40 days prior to Easter is an opportunity for growth.
Growth in prayer, in service and in becoming a closer friend of Jesus Christ. It may be good to give up chocolates for the waistline but so much better and a more precious gift to give up some time. So some Lenten suggestions: Why not make a bit of extra time for someone in the family or a neighbour? Perhaps think particularly of that elderly person who could do with a visit or children in your family who would be enriched by your time spent with them.
As for prayer – why not make some special time for God at the beginning of a day and then before getting engrossed in television give a little time to opening your Bible and praying. Read a few verses and let the message sink in. Let Lent work for you!
