A COUNCILLOR’S complaint about a rival’s local election campaign has been dismissed by police.
Alan Neal, a Community First candidate for Healey and Whitworth, had asked officers to look at the leaflets supporting Labour’s Sean Serridge, who represents the ward, during last month’s local elections.
It is understood his complaints related to claims he had voted in favour of an increase in councillors’ allowances, as well as printing irregularities.
The matter was investigated by a senior police officer, Detective Inspector Dave Groombridge.
But after speaking to Coun Serridge, he said it was not a police matter.
In an email to the two councillors, he said he was satisfied there was ‘some provenance’ for Labour’s allegations, rather than ‘fabricated mischief making’.
He said Coun Serridge accepted the publisher details on the election leaflets ‘could have been clearer’ but said this could be dealt with ‘by words of advice’.
