A SUMMERSEAT couple will never forget their Valentine’s night — and neither will the firefighters who freed them from a pair of handcuffs.
Simon Garvey, who lives in Victoria Lanterns, and his girlfriend went to Bury fire station the next morning after being unable to remove the cuffs.
Simon, 29, said: “We both thought it was hilarious and couldn’t stop laughing.”
During the night of romance, his 21-year-old partner was handcuffed to the bedpost 'for a laugh'.
Simon said: “But the key broke. And she thought it would be hilarious to handcuff herself to me!
"There was no key and we couldn’t do anything. We had both had a drink so slept quite easily.”
It was only the next day they realised what a pickle they were in — attached not only to the bedpost but also to each other.
Simon, a bar manager in Bury, said: “I managed to break the wooden bedpost and free her but we were still attached.
"The handcuffs were on so tight that soap and water would not work.”
Ultimately, they had to turn to the emergency services for help and took a taxi to the fire station.
Simon said: “It took around 30 seconds to cut the handcuffs off.
“The emergency services are always great. This is the first time I’ve needed them for myself.”
