A FORMER goods yard on the East Lancashire Railway line looks set to be given a new lease of life as an Indian restaurant.
Blueprints have been unveiled to convert the grade II listed stone freight house, at Summerseat station, into an eaterie, by Tottington-based Mala Cuisine.
Neighbours and ward councillor Dorothy Gunther claim the access to the goods yard, along Rowlands Road, is dangerous.
And some are concerned at what effect the proposals may have on nesting bats, though no evidence has been found of their presence.
Planning officer Helen Longworth says in a report to Bury Council’s development control that the proposals should not impact on the neighbourhood.
Recommending approval for the scheme, she adds: “The proposed development would be the only restaurant use within the locality.
The committee meets at Bury Town Hall tonight.
