STUBBINS Residents' Association won second place in this year's North West in Bloom competition.
People of all ages turned out with trowels to help plant over 2,000 daffodil bulbs which will form a daffodil walk' in Stubbins, Chatterton and Strongstry.
The bulbs were bought using donations from local businesses and a neighbourhood grant from Rossendale Borough Council.
Ward councillor Darryl Smith who helped set up the residents' association in 2006, said: "The second runner up award is a remarkable achievement by the people of Stubbins given that they didn't start the In Bloom' initiative until May this year with the competition being judged in July.
"In just three short months we have succeeded in overhauling the garden area on Bolton Road North, installed a three tier planter, introduced a gateway' stone including planting, sourced funding and provided hanging baskets and plant boxes to the majority of properties on the main through road.
"We also carried out weeding, grass cutting and litter picking, to make Stubbins a much more attractive area.
"None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the residents and businesses in Stubbins."
