REVISED plans have been drawn up for a major redevelopment of Loveclough Park by the social enterprise agency Proffitts.
Plans for the park project, which is being supported by Limey Valley Residents Association, include a five-a-side kickabout area, tennis courts, a netball or basketball area, junior and todder play areas, wildlflower meadows and a woodland garden.
Haslingden-based Proffitts, which has also worked on a major cycle track in Stacksteads and refurbishing a recreation ground in south-west Burnley, estimates it may take at least £200,000 to achieve each of the project’s goals.
Rachel Marsden, a landscape architect who drew up the Loveclough proposals, said: “We are going to have to separate it out into phases to make everything possible.
“We will now be looking for funding and it could take around 18 months before we complete much of the work. The park is very popular as it is the only one for the area.
“The first area we may look at is one of the tennis courts and the junior play area, as there is already some provisions for younger children, with a working play area already there.”
The junior play area, to feature a basket swing, regular swings, mini zip wire and climbing frame, will be on the site of the old pavilion.
Proposals show that the old bowling green will make way for the kickabout area, with one of the tennis courts converted into a multi-use games area, with the other being refurbished.
Residents association members are due to meet later this month to discuss their priorities for the initiative. Online consultations have also been taking place with local people throughout the year.
David Hempsall, association chairman, said: “The thinking behind the plans after consulting with the local community, for which we got quite a decent response, is that there is a future for the park but it does need remodelling.”
