A RARELY-used patch of land at a Ramsbottom school has been renovated and turned into a wildlife haven, thanks to its pupils.
As part of their leaving celebrations, Year Six students at Emmanuel Holcombe Primary School helped to add life to a pond area to leave a lasting legacy to their time there.
The area will now be used as an outdoor classroom for pupils to use in the summer as well as a haven for wildlife.
It has been spruced up with the help of parents and the community who have donated items, Summerseat Garden Centre, which donated plants and other materials as well as Incredible Edible Ramsbottom (IER) and the Friends of Nuttall Park.
The pupils helped to build seats, put the finishing touches to the pond, as well as build an insect hotel and put up bird boxes.
They will continue to work on the site throughout the summer holidays to make sure it is ready for the new school year, and are still asking for more donations to add to the area.
Simon Ladds, of IER, said: “They absolutely loved doing the work, put in loads of effort and seemed thoroughly enthusiastic for the whole idea.
“They wanted to create the area to provide a wildlife haven so that birds, bats, insects and mammals could be helped.
“The area has been named the Eco Oasis and will be for the use of the whole school in September.
“It really is a great team effort from parents and the Year Six pupils who helped turn this into a really amazing new resource for a very special school.
“We really appreciated all the help.”
