A PUBLIC meeting in support of the Britannia Coconut Dancers has been hailed as ‘very successful’.
Almost 40 supporters of the dance troupe gathered at The Wellington Inn on Thursday night to discuss the best way to secure the future of its Easter Boundary Dance.
County council chiefs have told the Coconutters that the march cannot go ahead in its traditional form next year after crowd control problems in April.
Secretary Joe Healey said: “There was a lot of support at the meeting and it went really well.
“We chatted about the best way forward and a petition will soon appear in all the shops and businesses in the town centre, which will then be presented to Jake Berry MP.”
Among the attendees was Derek Schofield, editor of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) magazine, who travelled from Cheshire.
