AN East Lancashire pub has won an award for its burgers in a national competition.
The Fence Gate Inn, in Fence, near Burnley, won the final round of the ‘England’s Best Burger Challenge 2012’ to triumph in the independent category with its Bowland Steak Burger.
Managing director Kevin Berkins, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be the overall winner of the independent category.
“It’s a tremendous achievement.
“I originally developed the Bowland Steak Burger recipe more than 20 years ago for another of my establishments.
“The burger uses beef sourced from the surrounding Trough of Bowland region, and it proved to be so popular that I decided to put it on the menu at the Fence Gate Inn as well, where it continues to be a favourite with customers.”
The burger will now go head to head with the Coarse Cut burger, from Aubrey Allen, at the Meat Management Awards, in London, on May 24 to see which one is crowned England’s Best Burger.
